Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown cause. Lupus varies from mild to severe and could become life threatening if not treated properly. With Lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against “self”. The blood, skin, joints, kidneys, lungs, brain, heart, lymph nodes and other organs can be involved in any combination.

Lupus affects adult women ten times more frequently than men. Lupus is more common than Sickle Cell Anemia, Cerebral Palsy and Cystic Fibrosis, yet is the least known of all major diseases. Our website is designed to improve quality of life for those affected with Lupus. We strive for education and better awareness of Lupus, as well as eventually, to finding a cure.
